Hellert near Gelting

Baltic quiet among apple trees

Welcome to Angeln

Rolling hills, fresh Baltic air.

Meyers Ferienhaus is a holiday home estate with three separate units in Hellert near Gelting, in the Angeln region of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

The Angeln region lies framed by the Flensburg Fjord to the north, the Baltic coast with the Geltinger Birk nature reserve to the east, and the picturesque Schlei inlet to the south. Here, in fresh Baltic air, you can really wind down. Enjoy the extraordinary quiet — or fall into conversation with the exceptionally unhurried Angeliter, as the people of Angeln call themselves.

In the middle of this gently rolling landscape you will find our small holiday retreat, Meyers Ferienhaus, with its three units Lüttdeel, Holtdeel and Olendeel, which you can also book together.

Right next to the sauna, discreetly separated by a wall, you will find a bracing shower and a Kneipp hose for the cold-water finish. This is free for all our guests.

And for the quiet moments afterwards? Our converted greenhouse in the orchard is the ideal place to let your mind wander.

Just outside

Geltinger Birk nature reserve

The Geltinger Birk lies at the north-eastern tip of Angeln, where the Flensburg Fjord opens to the sea. With a total area of 773 hectares it is the largest nature reserve in the district of Schleswig-Flensburg. Over the course of a year some 200 species of bird can be seen here, among them the white-tailed eagle, once again on almost every day.

Cycling in Gelting

In Gelting, at Norderholm 26 a behind the ice-cream parlour, bicycles and e-bikes can be hired. A second hire point is at Stenderuper Straße 2, by the Klosterbäcker bakery on the way to Hellert. The whole area is superb for cycling tours.

Trips around the region

Discover Kappeln with its lively Schlei promenade, its many shops and restaurants. One highlight is the restaurant Tauwerk at the sailing harbour – booking recommended. Visit Arnis as well, Germany’s smallest town, known for its colourful houses and well-kept gardens. A ferry that also carries bicycles crosses the Schlei.

The coast on the doorstep

Cliffs, natural beaches and reed banks — all within a few kilometres.

Common questions

What is the minimum stay?

The minimum stay is three nights, and that applies to each unit as well as to the whole property. From seven nights on, every night costs less. The booking calendar works out what applies to your dates, and that price is the binding one. If you would like to extend at short notice, write to us: depending on the bookings, we can usually arrange it.

How do we book, and can we do it at short notice?

The booking calendar is under “Book now”. It shows which days are free and which are taken, for each unit and for the whole property. Booking at short notice is no trouble: as long as a date is free there, you can usually book today for tomorrow. If you would like to add days after booking, write to us and we will see whether anything before or after is free.

Can we rent the whole property as well?

Yes. The three units can be booked together, which comes to 178 m² with room for up to nine people. The calendar lists the whole property as a fourth option alongside the individual units.

What are the house rules?

We cannot take pets in any of the three units. Nobody smokes indoors. Parties and events are not possible either: the three units stand close together and share one garden. The grill out there is shared by all guests — please grill in a way that keeps flare-ups small, as there is a thatched roof above you.

Are children welcome?

Yes, families with children are welcome. Two cots and a high chair are available; let us know beforehand and they will be in the right unit on the day you arrive.

What is included in the price?

Bed linen, towels and the final cleaning are included in the prices. The sauna costs nothing extra either. So there is nothing you need to bring.

When can we arrive, and what if we get in late?

You can arrive from 3 pm and should leave by 11 am. In all three units the key is in a key safe, so you can arrive late in the evening without anyone having to wait up for you. And if neither time suits you: earlier or later can be arranged, just ask us beforehand.

How can we use the Finnish sauna?

The Finnish sauna belongs to the property and is shared by all guests. You cannot reserve a slot outright; instead you put your name down for a time and have a quick word with the other guests. It is available around the clock, has an electric stove and seats up to six.

Are the units suitable for a holiday in the colder months?

Yes, they are built for it. The Holtdeel and Lüttdeel have underfloor heating throughout, the Olendeel has a tiled stove as well, and the sauna runs all year. In autumn and winter it is quiet here, and the paths through the Geltinger Birk are empty.

Can we get here without a car?

It can be done, though not comfortably: the nearest station is Flensburg, 33 km away, and the last stretch to Hellert remains. Write to us beforehand and we will work the journey out together. Once here, a bicycle takes you everywhere: two plain loan bikes belong to the house and wait for you in the bicycle shed, and Gelting has two more hire shops, e-bikes included.

How accessible are the units?

The units are low-barrier, but not fully accessible. The Holtdeel and the Lüttdeel are on one level, and the showers are level-access in all three; the Olendeel has two floors, and there is a step up to the Holtdeel’s veranda. None of the doors are wide enough for a wheelchair. If you need short distances or step-free access, ask us beforehand — we will tell you exactly what to expect and find the right unit.

What is in the kitchen?

Each unit has a fully equipped kitchen with an oven, an induction hob, a dishwasher and a fridge with a freezer compartment. There is also a filter coffee machine, a kettle and a toaster. Crockery for a full house, pots and pans are there as well.

How far away are the beach, the shops and the Danish border?

The nearest beach is 3.5 km away. The bakery is 1.9 km away, the supermarket and the pharmacy 2.7 km. The border crossing into Denmark at Kruså is 51 km away, just under an hour by car.
